Project Summary

This project characterizes the spatial and temporal patterns of the Intertidal marine invertebrates on the mud flats of the Copper River Delta. The program has focused on shorebird-benthic invertebrate interactions, and also executed a number of experiments designed to examine predation. Demersal predators-benthic invertebrate interaction was the primary focus the following year. The current year objectives expand to include collaboration with Principal Investigators of OSRI’s Nowcast-Forecast Program to plan next phase and evaluate data for incorporation into a biological model for Nowcast-Forecast.

Field work will include collection of invertebrate core samples and small otter trawl tows to collect bottom fish and crabs. Both the invertebrates and bottom fish collections represent the first time these communities have been sampled on the Copper River Delta. Other aspects of the study include primary production and nutrient measurements and stable isotope analysis performed to more accurately characterize the food web of the Delta. In conjunction with project 03-10-07.
